Developer Account FAQ

What is a developer account?

A developer account is an account that offers access to all of Box’s enterprise features, including advanced collaboration and the admin console, through both the Box web app and the API. It creates a three-seat enterprise and associates it with your account.

What are Box’s enterprise features?

Box’s enterprise features include full text search, version history and the ability to create and manage users within an enterprise account. You can learn more about them here.

Who is eligible?

Anyone who uses the Box API.

How do I get a developer account?

If you don’t already have an account, you can create one here. Once you have an account, all you need to do is create your first application. If you do so while logged in with a free account, your account will automatically be upgraded to a developer account.

What if my account is part of an enterprise?

All enterprise users automatically have access to all enterprise features through the API. If you wish to access the admin console through the Box web app, talk to your account administrator or create a free account outside of your enterprise and obtain a developer account using the steps described above.

What if I have another account type (e.g. Lite with upgraded storage?)

The only accounts that will be automatically updated are free accounts. Contact us if you have a different non-enterprise account type that you would like updated.

How much do they cost?

Nothing – developer accounts are free.

Contact us with an explanation of why you need more seats, and the Box platform team will ensure your needs are met.

Who should I contact if I have questions?

Submit a request with any questions.
